Engaging with the Review of Proposed Childminding Regulations – Launched 19th June
The Review of the Proposed Childminding Regulations is now open for consultation. Childminding Ireland recognises that this is an important opportunity for childminders, parents and stakeholders to share their experiences and influence the future direction of childminding.
While Childminding Ireland has serious reservations about aspects of the review and the proposed regulatory direction in its current form, childminders’ voices must be heard. We will be making a submission, and we are asking childminders and parents to participate in the consultation process as well.
Engagement does not equal endorsement. Taking part in the consultation is not about supporting every aspect of the process; it is about ensuring that the realities of childminding are formally recorded and considered by decision-makers.
The Department’s consultation is seeking feedback on how the regulations are operating in practice, whether the regulatory model is appropriate and proportionate, the effectiveness of supports available to childminders, and barriers to registration and compliance. The review will consider the experiences of childminders at all stages of engagement with the system, including those who have registered, those considering registration, and those who have not yet engaged with supports.

Minding Matters is a relaxed, informal online gathering where childminders can connect, share experiences, and support one another. The July sessions of Minding Matters will focus on the future of childminding and the changing regulatory landscape, as the Review of the Proposed Childminding Regulations is now open for consultation.
These sessions will explore the proposed changes, discuss what they may mean in practice, and provide an opportunity for us to hear directly from childminders. We want to accurately understand your experiences, concerns, and priorities so that we can represent the sector effectively and help ensure that the future of childminding is shaped by the realities of practice.
