Course Description

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to deliver immediate treatment to a sick or injured child in an emergency situation before the medics arrive.  The course content includes CPR for children & infants, head injuries, infant choking and more.

This in person training is a full day course and costs €80 for members and €90 for non members. This course runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Certification

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued which is valid for two years.  This training course is ideal for professionals working with children.

Learning Outcomes

Topics Included in the In-person Course

This one-day course covers many modules, and each participant has time to practice with the equipment, fully understand and become competent in the skill of first aid.  It gives the learner the knowledge to give immediate treatment to a sick or injured child in an emergency, before professional help arrives.

Course content includes:

  • Accident scene management / Casualty  Assessment
  • Respiratory Emergencies e.g. Child and Infant-Choking, Asthma
  • Cardiac first response-  (CPR / Child/ infant / Adult  )
  • Bleeding wounds and Shock in children and infants
  • Allergic Reactions
  • Suspected Broken Bones
  • Head Injury
  • Spinal Injury
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Recovery Position
  • Fainting and Seizures
  • Epilepsy and Diabetes
  • Meningitis
  • Childhood illness

This course is highly interactive with role-playing and practical exercises to reinforce understanding and learning. The course concludes with a practical skills assessment which covers CPR and Choking treatment.

All participants of this training will receive a Paediatric First Aid manual.
