Child Safeguarding (Child Protection) Foundation Level for Childminders
Always Children First
Always Children First, the current child protection and welfare training course for the Early Years sector is being rolled out by Childminding Ireland to childminders nationally. This is the standard child protection training course for Early Years practitioners and has been expanded to meet the needs of childminders.
Cost of Training: Free
The one-day training course looks at what constitutes child abuse, roles and responsibilities in reporting child protection and welfare concerns, child protection policy, safeguarding and child-centred practice.
Places are limited and only available to persons working in childminding.
This is a Child & Family Agency accredited module that has been developed for the Early Years’ Sector. Each participant will receive a certificate in ‘Child Protection & Welfare: Basic Level’ on completion of this training.
This certificate is valid for three years.
Having completed the training participants will:
- Have a basic knowledge of Children First (2017)
- Know how to recognise child protection and welfare concerns
- Know how to respond appropriately to child protection and welfare concerns
- Understand the importance of agencies having effective child protection policies, procedures and practices

All Childminding Ireland members will be required to have completed a child protection course by July 2019. Members can choose Tusla’s elearning training programme or alternatively for a more in depth understanding of child protection, members can complete this Child Safeguarding Foundation Level training organised by Childminding Ireland.
