Understanding & Responding to Big Behaviours

Understanding & Responding to Big Behaviours

In every child’s day, there are moments when feelings become just too big. The child may react by crying, shouting, pushing, refusing, or even going quiet and shutting down. These “big behaviours” can be difficult to navigate, but at their core, they are simply signals that a child is overwhelmed and needs a little extra care and understanding.

We are delighted to welcome back Melissa Moore, Accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist, who will deliver a practical webinar created especially for childminders. Melissa will help you explore where big behaviours come from and how to recognise whether what you are seeing is part of typical development or a sign that a child is feeling overwhelmed and struggling to cope.

In this webinar, we will explore:

  • Why big behaviours happen and what the child is really communicating
  • How a child’s brain and body respond when emotions grow too big
  • The difference between typical development and a stress response
  • Kind, trauma-informed ways to bring calm and connection to challenging moments
  • Simple, soothing strategies you can use immediately to help create smoother, more peaceful days

The webinar aims to help you feel reassured, supported, and more confident in responding to children with empathy and understanding, especially on the days when their feelings take up a little more room.
